to 1990, Kemira Agro Oy (Kemira) and Arab Potash Company
Ltd. (APC) had first contacts for cooperation concerning
potassium fertilizers. The worldwide recession of
the chemical industry in 1991-1993 stopped the
discussions.
(KEMAPCO) Kemira Arab Potash Company Ltd. (registered at
Free Zone Corporation) was established as a joint venture of (APC) Arab
Potash Company ltd., in Jordan and Kemira Agro Oy in
Finland (later became Kemira Grow-How Oy), with an
investment of 110MUSD. The studies for co-operation
with the owners had started in 1996 and the memorandum of
understanding was signed in 1998. In summer 1999 the
joint venture agreement was signed, the company was
established, plant construction commenced 2000, finalized
by end 2002, commissioning & start-up of plants was
during January 2003, production of DCP started February
2003, later NOP during March then finally NA Plant during
June 2003.
On February 1st 2007, Kemira has divested its
50% shareholding in Kemapco in favor of the Arab Potash
Company (APC). Kemapco becomes now fully owned by APC, who
is one of the world leaders in the production of Potassium
Chloride.
Following to this divestment process the
Company name has been changed as of August 1st,
2007 to " Arab Fertilizers and Chemical Industries LTD"
,
The name Kemapco has been maintained as our distinguished
trade Mark and Company short name.
